The new plant is approximately 150,000 SF of single-story, open cell fabrication and module assembly space, with nominal support/office/meeting space, laboratories and a utility pad. The structure was also completely seismically upgraded to allow use of hazardous production materials and required quantities for the solar cell development; and involved requirements for specialty gases, liquid chemicals, CDA, vacuum air, argon, nitrogen waste water treatment, water recycling and DI water. Scope of work included sitework, exterior gas pad, trash enclosure, loading dock upgrades and parking lot modifications. Substantial work also occurred in the adjacent building where additional facilities upgrades were performed to accommodate additional tools.
Critical to the aggressive project schedule was early identification and handling of all permitting requirements.
